Skin Cancer Treatment

Skin cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer diagnosed in the United States, underscoring the significance of appropriate skin cancer treatment. Various forms of skin cancer exist, with basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma being the most common. Overexposure to the sun is the leading cause of skin cancer.

Given its widespread occurrence, early inspection by a trained medical professional is of utmost importance when any sign of a problem arises. Initiating skin cancer treatment at the earliest possible stage increases the likelihood of successful outcomes. It's essential to understand that skin cancer treatment can only address tumors on the skin. If cancer has spread to other parts of the body, additional measures such as surgery or chemotherapy may be necessary.

Surgical removal of the affected area of skin is the most effective skin cancer treatment. This highly precise surgery often requires a multi-disciplinary approach involving experts from various medical fields. Dr. Bhatt collaborates with board-certified dermatologist, dermatopathologist, and Mohs micrographic surgeon, Dr. Daniel Sheehan, to utilize state-of-the-art techniques that ensure complete removal of skin cancer while preserving as much normal tissue as possible. Furthermore, post-skin cancer reconstruction is skillfully performed to restore the affected area, particularly on the face, to ensure critical aesthetic integrity.

In cases where skin cancer affects cosmetically important areas like the face, Mohs micrographic surgery is employed as a highly precise technique for removal. Skin cells removed during this procedure are immediately examined under a microscope by board-certified dermatopathologist, Dr. Daniel Sheehan, to verify complete eradication of the skin cancer. Dermatopathology, the specialization in microscopically examining skin disorders, is pivotal in this process. After successful removal, Dr. Bhatt proceeds with post-skin cancer reconstruction, focusing on maintaining the area's critical aesthetic appearance.
